The Unexpected: Part 3

Writer's picture: the mark makersthe mark makers

It's difficult to see why the Lord allows certain things in our lives, especially the unexpected. Last night we listened to Psalm 91 by Shane and Shane and were so touched by it. For many, this psalm has become to be known as the COVID psalm. The Lord drew our attention to it in March and we read that we can rest in the shadow of the Almighty and we will not fear the plague that destroys at midday.

Today, I found out that my fellow markmaker has tested positive for coronavirus. Only a few months ago she wrote about Paul’s challenge “And we know all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28). I am reminded of the weight and power of words. Sometimes we need to choose to believe Paul’s words. Today is one of those days. She is a daughter of the King of Kings, appointed to worship and build His Kingdom. Opposition may come, indeed, she would say to me “a thief does not rob an empty house”, and she is right! So, today I believe that the Lord is faithful to His word, nothing can separate us from His love and the words of Psalm 91 are true, “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him. With a long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16). Let us remember that “...no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.” (2 Cor 1:20)
