In the studio tonight we were doing what we love most, listening to our “Songs of Favour” playlist, talking about the Lord and ….. making marks. As we began cutting and rearranging the pieces from the images we created, it occurred to us that we could create limitless combinations of patterns and images. The idea of ‘deconstruction and reconstruction’ is a common technique in the world of Art and Design. By taking the images apart and putting them back together countless possibilities are created and the artwork is redefined. The bible tells us that while the perfect work of salvation is finished, we are not! Paul writes in Philippians 1:6 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (NLT)
When we think of our lives, particularly the past few years, with the loss of our Mums, amongst other health and family issues, we can testify to the fact that we have been broken apart, turned upside down and parts of our character have forever changed. But that’s OK! Praise the Lord, He did not leave us in that broken state. Instead, when we surrendered our broken selves to Him, knowing we had no power to fix ourselves, he began to redefine us and make us into something new. After all, he is the one who made us, so he is the one who can put us back together. He began to provide new opportunities and people to meet our spiritual and emotional needs, and it’s exciting to think that we are still a work in progress. And just as the possibilities and combinations surprised and excited us, so too can your life when you surrender it to the Lord. The very definition of the word “create” means to “make something from nothing, or to make something new from what is already there.”
Maybe you feel that things are falling apart, being deconstructed or simply out of your control, can we encourage you?... that regardless of what state your life is in or how badly you think you’ve messed things up, God's not finished with you yet! He is the ultimate designer, the creator of all things and he is able to reconstruct and rearrange things for your good and His glory! Trust Him. Bring it to him and watch His handiwork unfold.
