A Mark Worth Making

Writer's picture: the mark makersthe mark makers

"Musicians use notes, writers use words and artists use marks."

But for what?

Understanding that marks are expressive and can capture and communicate emotion or experience is something that not everyone recognises.

But this is creativity at its best: when you know the marks you put on the page are original and personal, expressing your innermost subconscious thoughts and feelings.

We have painted pain, joy, confusion, hope, fear and much much more. It hasn't always been easy and sometimes allowing yourself to revisit experiences and moments that you think your mind would rather forget, end up producing surprising marks and gives us a visual story which we can go back and read.

And why wouldn't we want to create? Our heavenly father is the ultimate creator; we are born again, share His DNA and we are made in His image. Sometimes our experiences of and with God are easier to communicate or document in marks rather than words. Not being restricted by form or image means that we are free to express those things that have been put in our heart and soul. There is something about abstract lines, colours, textures and shapes that resonate with an experience or feeling.

Our aim is not just to share our hearts, souls and experiences - we want to encourage you to open a sketchbook and connect...with Him and yourself.
